for "next steps" - HGTV is still requesting audition tapes for the series.

Our show will bring an interior designer and a modest (TBD)
budget (plus some piggybank from you if you like) to do a 2-3 day makeover
of a space around your home into a "Wow!" space for your kid(s). It will be
intense but fun, and you will have a say in the design choices.
If you select a room indoors, it needs to have at least the "basics" --
finished floor, walls & ceiling.
To help us in considering you for our series, we're asking interested
families to apply by doing the following --
1) put together a 5-minute video for us & get it to us by mid-December
(sooner's even better). Don't worry about it being slick or professional -
just a home movie tape would be greatly appreciated!
2) email us some pics of the house, the space, the kids & the parents, and
in that email list names of ALL family members & ages of the kids;
Here's what we need you to do on the tape:
--show us all around the room, yard or area you have in mind.
--have your KID or KIDS tell us what they want to do with the space. With
young kids, just ask them questions on-camera about what they like that a
designer might translate into cute or clever design approaches -- the sky's
the limit on this part.
--each PARENT tell us what YOU (parent or parents) want to do with the
space, think is reasonable to aim for, or concerns you have from a "parent's
eye view" about the space. If there are differences between what you want
and what your child envisions, all the better -- it makes it more engaging!
--EVERYONE in your family who lives in the home needs to put in a reasonable
screen appearance since you all are potential show "characters."
--Focus on the space; tell us any cute or interesting anecdotes about it or
reasons why it needs a makeover. Any bit of info that makes your project
stand out in the crowd!
--feel free to also tell us a bit about your family and why you need and
deserve HGTV's help.
If you don't have a camera, you could ask a friend to shoot it for you. It
doesn't have to be fancy or edited together complete with special effects.
It just needs to introduce us to your family and your project dreams.
When you're done, please send your submission (we prefer either VHS, DVD,
mini-DV, or CD. Please no 8mm or Hi-8.)
